Abundance
February 26, 1999
Dear Friends,
It was late. Basketball practice ran long and my son still needed to do his homework. I was just tired and didnt feel very well. So, we picked up hamburgers on the way home. After a few bites, I noticed that something was wrong with my burger . . . What was it? . . What could it be? . . . flash . . . The light bulb came on over my head . . . My hamburger didnt have any hamburger on it. It had lettuce and tomatoes, hold the onions, extra mayo but, no meat.

". . . I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
(John 10:10 KJV)
Life without the Lord is like a hamburger with no meat: You know that something is missing. Dont get me wrong, I understand a sandwich . . . even one without meat . . . can sustain your body . . . and yet . . . life - like a hamburger by it very nature - requires more. Life in the Lord is more, much more. When we give our lives to Jesus, not only are we forgiven through His blood, not only are we imbued with His Holy Spirit, not only are we adopted as sons of God, joint heirs with Christ but, we are, also, entitled to Gods promise of abundance. Just listen . . .
Paul writes to the Ephesians that God is ". . . able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask or think . . . (Ephesians 3:20 KJV)." To the church at Corinth, Paul quotes Isaiah: ". . . eye have not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him (I Corinthians 2:9 KJV)." The Old Testament prophet Malachi writes that God will ". . . open up the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10)." Ezekiel speaks of "showers of blessing (Ezekiel 34:26)." And in Lukes Gospel we find these words: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over . . . (Luke 6:38)." Tell me . . . Is there something missing in your life?

We took the hamburgers back and asked the manager for our meat. He gave us that and more. We received hot, freshly made hamburgers (with meat!) plus drinks and fries.!
