The Desires of Your Heart

Dear Friends,

Let me tell you about the wonderful way in which the Lord blessed my friend, Charles. . . . Twenty years ago, he became ill and dropped out of college a semester before receiving his bachelor degree. For the past twenty years he has taken classes . . . the desire of his heart was to complete his bachelor degree and ultimately to obtain a doctorate.

"Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4

This past summer, Charles sent his transcript to a university to be analyzed. . . . Did he have enough hours for a bachelor degree? The school called. That conversation went something like this: Daring to hope, my friend asked, "Do I have enough hours, can I get my bachelor degree?"

"You could if you wanted to," replied the administrator.

"What do you mean by that?" Asked my friend.

To which the administrator replied, "You have more than enough hours for a bachelor degree."

After a pause, my friend then asked, "Well then, can I begin my master's degree?"

The administrator replied, "Well . . . you could if you wanted to."

To this cryptic reply my friend asked, "What does that mean?"

The administrator replied, "You have more than enough hours for a master degree." My friend then asked, "Well, can I begin my doctoral degree?"

Once again the administrator replied, "Well . . . you could if you wanted to."

Again, my friend asked, "What does that mean?"

To this third and final question the administrator replied, You have enough hours for a doctoral degree. If you can complete the requisite reading and writing, you could earn your doctoral degree by December.

Last week, my friend, Charles called me, again. He said, "I received a letter from the school. I won't receive my doctorate in December." . . . . aaaaawwwwwww! . . . He then read the letter to me. "Dear Dr. Charles," it read . . .He would not receive his doctorate in December because the school had already awarded it to him! In the words of the song, "What a mighty God we serve!"
