The Glory of God

March 19, 1999

Dear Friends,

It was last Autumn. I can't remember what I was doing, (I think I was writing.) but I must have lost track of the time. One minute the sun was shining . . . the next it wasn't. It was dark, very dark and I hadn't turned on the outside lights nor had I closed my blinds. Quickly, I rose. Going from room to room I closed blinds, double-checked locks and turned on lights. As I closed the blinds in the kitchen, I glanced out the window . . . Oh Wow! . . . Rising above the roof top of the house behind me was the harvest moon . . . Big . . . Bright . . . Glorious . . . Instead of closing those blinds, I opened them wider and took a seat. I can't begin to express my joy, my satisfaction as I gazed on my God's handiwork.

"The heavens are telling of the glory of God;

and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.".

Psalm 19:1 NAS

We, too should praise Him; God is worthy of our praise. There is a song that I like . . . a lot. The name of it is "Our God is an Awesome God." Yes! He is! There are no words to describe our God. No words do Him justice. No matter what words we use, how broad our vocabulary, how illustrative our speech, we can never fully articulate His awesomeness. We could never praise Him enough . . . Still . . . we should praise Him . . . we must praise Him . . .we ought to praise Him. "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord (Psalm 150:6)."

That night . . . in awe . . . I sat humbly gazing out my kitchen window . . . watching the moon as it ascended into the heavens. And . . . I understood this: That moon - in ways I could never approximate - greatly praised the glory of our God.
